At its core Centering is quite simple. There is however some confusion associated with it. First, the technique is often confused with the result. Centering can be achieved in a multitude of different ways. People quite frequently associated it with meditation. Meditation can be a very powerful form of Centering however, meditation is a means to an end. It is one of the skills that can be used.
Centering is a natural physiological process, which exists within ourselves regardless of the practice of meditation. Meditation and other effective Centering skills merely enhance the state of Center within the mind and body. A good analogy would be comparing it to running. Everyone has run from time to time. Running is helpful to your cardiovascular system and can put you in great shape. Although we all run from time to time, not all of us are athletes.
An athlete will follow a regular discipline routine of running and other activities so that he/she can achieve maximum and consistent results in running. Meditation and other Centering programs are like that, they allow you to keep in good mental shape. They can also be used to enhance your mental ability. In Centering, as in athletics, the consistency and the degree of your development is related to the effectiveness of the program and your consistent practice.
